Is my car title needed when trading it in for a new car?

I paid off my car almost 2 months ago. I received a letter from the bank, with a copy of my loan stamped %26quot;paid%26quot; and a note mentioning if my title was not included in this letter that it would be along shortly. I still havent received the title and would like to go shopping for a new car and trade the old one in. Is it possible to trade it in with out the title? I%26#039;ve heard sometimes dealers roll the trade-in%26#039;s loan with theirs when a person is buying a new car, but I am not sure about when there is no longer a bank on the title. I spoke with my bank and they said to call back monday afternoon, but I was hoping to go look at a car I wanted this weekend.

OK here is the deal the rolling over is only when you still owe on the car but yes you need the title when trading in a car for a new car if the bank dose not find your title to your car got the the county building and request a new title but in the mean time it dose not hurt to look at cars test drive cars and do research on the vehicle that you want

Yes, car dealers will work with anything to sell a vehicle. Bring them your statements and they%26#039;ll get the title situation rushed along.

Yep, you need it.

I have heard that they can take several months. Depends what state you live in too, whether the new title will come form the dealer or the state. If it%26#039;s the state, check with the motor vehicles department and see if you can go there and have them print one (of course bring all your documentation)

Sounds to me like shortly has%26#039;nt been very short. Call your bank and demand to speak to a manager and tell him or her you made your payments on time and you want your title NOW ! Sometimes you have to be demanding to get what you want and if you want that new car raise some hell you should even GO to the bank and demand an explanation

Is my car title needed when trading it in for a new car?

Yes you definitely need the title if you want to look for a new car take the pay off papers you got with you to show you own the car Then First chance you get take those papers to the bank you took the loan out with and DEMAND your title

they should have sent it with the payoff papers YOU cannot

trade in, sell or give the car you own now without its title!

If you are in New York, the only State I%26#039;m sure about, you receive a title document when you originally purchase a car. The title says that there is a lien against the car. When the loan is paid off, you do not get a new title. You get a form from the lender saying the lien has been satisfied. That and the original encumbered title are all you need to sell it.

Is my car title needed when trading it in for a new car?

YES IT IS NEEDED AT THE TIME OF THE TRADE.
